Shine for Nigeria

Well, I decided not to post anything on Nigeria's recent independence anniversary which held on October 1st. However,  after all the celebrations (if any), spare me a few minutes on this thought by a friend.

While a number of you spend donkey hours or even, years pointing fingers at grey areas within our country (NIGERIA) since gaining independence in 1960 (53 years tuesday), even as you compare us with other world powers given our natural resources and exhibited potentials, I want you to ponder over these:

- How Many of those Countries have up to 254 ethnic identities like we do?
-How many of such countries
- How many of those Nations co-inhabit in terms of religious divide (remember India & Pakistan)?
- Do you also recall when giving birth to twins was  considered an abomination?
- Do you recall when leprosy was seen as a curse from God & such people were condemned to death?
- Do you also recall when a woman's only duty in life was to tend her house hold?

I can go on and on. The point here is, if we must achieve that which we collectively seek for our country to become great, there is need for optimism amongst us. It is time to get involved and stop talking and grumbling on the side. "Light shone from only one direction casts dark shadows". We must not wait for that one leader to emerge, we must at this point begin to input our bit in the right quantity and turn on our lights all at once. Kudos to the few who have emerged and are already shining their lights.

It is said that the three kinds of people who exist are those who watch things happen, those to whom things happen and those who make things happen. We must emerge from the league of those to whom things happen and start making things happen for ourselves.

This includes charging a fair price on goods and services; Recognizing that not everyone grew up the way you did and must  not think or behave like you; Showing a little kindness and more  patience to that person in need or to the one who upsets you; Recognizing our uniqueness in diversity hence, the need to learn and understand each other; Making a choice to earn justly and not take unlawfully,  what belongs to another.

Through this platform, my voice is heard! On Twitter [@FemiBellos], I pierce your thoughts through my actions, my light shines and through our efforts, change happens.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!
